Project Details
This internship will occur at the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Research Center, the archive and library for the Rhode Island Historical Society. The student will be supervised by the Public Services Librarian, who has a background in archives, libraries, and knowledge management.

The main activity of this internship will be processing a collection. The student will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with processing a whole collection that is roughly 2.5-3 linear feet. Processing will include arrangement and description, finding aid writing, and input on catalog entry data.
On top of this project, the student will be able to learn preservation techniques including book enclosure building, repairs, and other techniques, as desired.
If the student comes on Tuesdays, they will also work as part of the RIHS team with weekly space activities, which range from paging, inventorying, organizing, moving, and other tasks typically performed at most archives.
Other possible activities include a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum collections held at the John Brown House Museum as well as assisting with a project photographing Revolutionary era flags in February.
In addition to these options, we'll work with the student to determine what other interests they have and to find projects that are a good fit for them.
