Project Details
Students will assist the Manager/Archivist in transforming an analog record-keeping system into a digital catalog using Artwork Archive software. Students will need to have familiarity with data entry. Data entry includes details of each individual photograph in the collection (approximately 1260 images; 4500 prints) from an existing notebook, in which each page provides information on the photograph (e.g., description, dimensions, subject matter, location within the collection, condition). Students will need to search for an accompanying image for the database and/or scan the actual photograph as needed. Students will also provide subject tags for each photograph. Students will learn about art collection organization and management and how to protect and maintain a legacy archive.
Are you willing to complete two evaluations of your students progress through out the course of the semester?
Yes
Requirements
Students must possess an eye for detail, good record-keeping and writing skills, accuracy, and a willingness to learn. Taking initiative, asking questions, and problem-solving are also valued. A knowledge of photography is desirable, especially mid 20th-century American photography, although an overall understanding of art collecting is also a plus. Students will need to provide their own transportation (a T station is nearby) and a laptop.
