Project Details
Projects may include one or both of the following, depending on time required and the language skills of the student:
1. Organize and inventory (to the extent possible) our Shields collection. This contains approximately 450 letters, five diaries, 800 negatives and prints, and 30+ memorabilia items that are related to the Shields family's experience in China and Korea in the early 20th c. An inventory of this collection was begun last year, but the results were unsatisfactory.
2. Catalog thread-bound Chinese books (mostly pre-1930). This will include an introduction to Chinese critical bibliography. Requires knowledge of Chinese.
