Project Details
The Medford Public Library was recently awarded a generous grant by the Bloomberg Foundation to digitize our archive. We are in the midst of the digitization project now, and transferring those files into our new Digital Asset Management platform (we selected AM Quartex, which works closely with museums, archives & libraries and emphasizes discoverability and design). We are creating metadata for collections, developing controlled vocabularies, uploading files, and organizing them into collections. We're requesting a 512 student because we'd like to work with someone further along in their archival studies who can function as a thought partner and collaborator on this endeavor. We'll also continue on other related projects as well that this student could be involved in, including scanning fragile glass negatives by hand (too delicate to send out for digitization), finalizing finding aids for the archive and local history room, and - depending on the students' aptitude and interests - involvement in other parts of the info/ref world, including programming.
