Project Details
Project Description:
The Greenfield Public Library's Local History Room houses a significant collection of books and documents that were previously stored in suboptimal conditions, leading to damage. Thanks to a CPC grant, the library is undertaking a project to inventory, repair, and rehouse these unique historical items in a climate-controlled and preservation-friendly environment. This grant primarily covers the cost of a professional archivist and essential preservation supplies.
Intern Role:
The intern will assist the lead archivist in various tasks related to the inventorying, repair, and rehousing of the Local History Room collection. Specific duties may include:
Inventory a collection of Local History print materials.
Note the condition of each title and, working with a consulting archivist, consider preservation options.
Make suggestions for adding data to catalog records where appropriate.
Write a scope of collections statement for the Local History Room.
Appraise the collection for breadth and coverage of Greenfield local history and make suggestions for the acquisition of new titles or weeding of materials.
