The New London County Historical Society (NLCHS) was incorporated in 1870. Headquartered in historic Shaw Mansion, the society collects, documents, artifacts, photographs, and ephemera which pertains to the history of southeastern Connecticut. The NLCHS has a three fold mission of preservation, education, and community service. Our collection has been deemed of national importance containing items like the Joshua Hempstead Diary. One of the best sources for researching colonial life in New England. The NLCHS, offers, genealogy services, public history education programs, youth outreach programs, book publishing, and lectures.
