Project Details
Over the course of the Fall 2025 semester, the Simmons University Archives seeks an LIS 512 student to lead Part II of the Archives’ Photograph Collection Digitization Project. The student’s work will be supported and supervised by Kelsey Kolbet, University Archivist, with the assistance of Hannah Gershone, Archives and Digital Initiatives Fellow. This iteration will center on (1) the APC photograph collection and (2) historical photographs from select manuscript collections–all contents of which will be digitized and ingested for public access via the Simmons University Digital Archives (SUDA).
The student will identify photographs that are currently absent from SUDA, digitize photographs as needed, sort digitized photographs into preexisting topical categories, suggest new topical categories, produce metadata files for each photograph, and ingest both metadata files and image files into Preservica. All of these tasks will support the Archives’ mission of enhancing public access to, and long-term preservation of, Simmons University’s photographic history.
