Project Details
Northeastern Library 's Centers for Digital Scholarship (CDS) supports a range of digital humanities projects that involve describing, cataloguing, or transcribing primary-source materials. To support these projects in recruiting and organizing volunteer labor, our goal is to develop documentation and template materials that would make it easy for projects to quickly set up a Zooniverse instance to facilitate transcription and data creation tasks. The intern would examine a range of existing Zooniverse projects to identify good practices in workflows and supporting materials, and would work with the Digital Scholarship Group and the CDS Coordinator to synthesize these and prepare a toolkit for CDS use. The intern would also contribute to supporting the CDS fall Zooniverse Challenge, which invites students and staff to contribute monthly to a Zooniverse project of their choice. This position would provide a strong orientation in community-based data creation and citizen science practices, as well as an opportunity to think through how workflows and instructional materials can support the creation of consistent, thoughtfully produced data.
