Project Details
The Church History Cataloguing Library intern will manage a project to increase intellectual control and access of uncatalogued local church history publications. The material is largely ephemeral, such as brochures and typescripts, and has been organized and inventoried. Under the supervision of the Librarian, the intern will add material to existing collections of church history by removing out-of-scope and duplicate material, updating the catalog record, and physically integrating and arranging the material according to local standards and workflows. An introduction to the ILS (Softlink Liberty) and basic cataloguing processing (e.g. MARC and RDA) will be included as part of the training. The internship is 130 hours (3 credits) with a flexible weekly schedule to be determined in consultation with the candidate.
OR
The Mapping Local History Collections Intern will manage a program to map locations of the CLA’s holdings of church history collections as part of a digital humanities project to increase visibility and outreach of the library’s holdings. Using data extracted from the catalog, the intern will create a spreadsheet of church locations and holdings information which will be uploaded to a GIS mapping software to create an interactive and informative map to be displayed on the library’s website. Some data will require additional research into church and location names to clarify. The intern may work with Communications Manager to promote the finished map to external audiences. This is a 130-hour internship for academic credit (3 credits) with a flexible weekly schedule to be determined in consultation with the candidate. This internship can be completed hybrid or remote.
