Project Details
The Atkins Institution was the tropical research station in Cuba of the Arnold Arboretum from 1900-1960. The Atkins Institution Papers was processed nearly 20 years ago. In the meantime, new materials have been acquired and the collection has received scholarly use. For the project, the student will incorporate the new materials, rewrite the existing finding aid, put the rewritten finding aid into ASpace, and digitize selected items from the collection. The finding aid will require a certain amount of reparative work to address the early history of Edwin Atkins association with unfree labor on his sugar plantation.

We require that any person that participates any internship opportunity at the Arnold Arboretum be a matriculated student at an institution of higher learning.
A reading knowledge of Spanish would be very helpful for understanding some of the documents in this collection.
