Overview: Boston University Libraries is excited to offer a unique fieldwork experience opportunity for Simmons SLIS students in the Cultural Heritage Informatics program. This opportunity provides hands-on experience in various digital initiatives and projects that cover the entire digital asset management lifecycle, allowing students to gain valuable skills and insights into the world of academic librarianship.

Programs and Initiatives: Participants will have the opportunity to job shadow and work on several key projects and initiatives within the Digital Ventures department, including:

1. Scholarly Publishing & Institutional Repository Services: Assist with services to expand the global reach of BU scholarship and gain hands-on experience using a DSpace institutional repository, OpenBU.

2. Programmatic Digitization Projects: Contribute to various digitization projects that support the access and preservation of BU's archives and special collections. Students will also gain experience with Modern Islandora through our BU Digital Library, which offers public access to digitized primary source materials from BU’s archives and special collections.

3. Digital Preservation: Contribute to the planning of digital preservation efforts to ensure the longevity and accessibility of BU Libraries’ digital assets.

Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with library staff on digitization and scholarly communications projects.

· Assist in the creation and management of digital collections while also learning about ArchivesSpace, Islandora, and DSpace.

· Participate in workshops and training sessions related to digital library ecosystems.

· Support the development of workflows for digitization and digital preservation.

Requirements
· Current enrollment in Simmons SLIS program and registered in LIS 512 at the time of the fieldwork experience.

· Interest in academic librarianship and digital asset management.

· Strong organizational and communication skills.

· Work in-person at Digital Ventures, independently and as part of a team.
