Project Details
One of the main objectives of the Library Services and Technology Act is to support equitable access, for all North Carolinians, to information and technology needed to learn, live, govern, and work. To that end Robeson Community College (RCC) and the Anne Moss-Biggs Library is creating a physical/digital archive to preserve the history of RCC and its students, staff and faculty.
Robeson County has a rich and unique history. When Scottish settlers arrived in the 1730s, the Lumbee Indian Tribe consisted of small farm communities along the Lumber River, an area that would subsequently be called Robeson County. RCC is located in the city of Lumberton, which is the seat of Robeson County and is often described as the heart of the county. The RCC archive (both physical and digital) at the Anne Moss-Biggs Library serves to preserve the history of RCC, its students, staff and faculty. To that end, there is an ongoing need to preserve artifacts and digitize materials. Currently, the library is developing a direction for the future that includes a college-focused oral history project and a renovation of the archive suite.
