Map digitization project: Metadata and processing

The Farmington Libraries is preparing to digitize its map collection with a local company. There is an index for this collection, but the maps are not numbered, so although there is location information for each map, it is more by the drawer instead of by a specific identifier. Further, there is additional information we would like to add, such as whether the map is a copy or an original, and what copyright information is available on each map. Lastly, the existing index fields could use some cleaning up, as some of them contain multiple bits of information in one field (for instance, a title as well as a date). We would like to have someone go through the entire map collection with the index, number them, add the additional metadata, and clean up the existing index. Some of the maps are extremely fragile and large.
