Project Details
The Farmington Room has several collections in need of either processing, inventorying, or cataloging, or some combination. A student could assist with one or more of the following:
1. A set of Farmington High School yearbooks dating back to the 1920s needs barcodes, call numbers, and a catalog record in Sierra.
2. We are beginning to develop a better way to organize and describe our vertical file collection, and have a backlog of items to add. Associated tasks would include assisting with updating an incomplete inventory of the contents; processing new items to add; researching items for source information and whether the item also exists online;
3. We are looking to connect the physical collections in our online catalog with their digital surrogate collections hosted on a different platform.
4. Our archives collection for the history of the Farmington Libraries and its parent organization, the Farmington Village Green and Library Association is in need of re-processing, re-housing, arranging, and describing. Many of the materials are currently in large 3-ring binders, and there are many overlapping records, creating duplicates. We would need someone to assist with removing records from the binders and placing in folders, as well as removing staples and paper clips, and identifying duplicate records. The student would be assisting me and a member of our advisory committee to make this collection more cohesive and accessible to our staff, who are the heaviest users of this collection.
5. We have finding aids to add to our state's ArchiveSpace instance, CT's Archives Online.
