Project Details
This project will involve processing the John D. Biggers papers. Biggers (1923-2018) was Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. He is recognized for a 1958 paper published with Anne McClaren reporting the first successful development of a mammalian early embryo in culture; this allowed for the development of in vitro fertilization in humans. The collection consists of Biggers’ professional correspondence, committee records, events records, a collection of newspaper clippings related to in vitro fertilization (IVF), and records related to Biggers’ 2016 publication Walter Heape, F.R.S.: A pioneer of reproductive biology. The collection is 3 cubic feet.
Under the supervisor of the processing archivist, the person in this role will survey the papers, develop a plan for processing the papers, arrange the papers according to the plan, and write a finding aid. The finding aid will be encoded in EAD by Center staff and published online for researcher use. The intern will write a short news post for the Center's website and social media.
