Job Purpose
The Simmons Cataloguing Intern will manage a project to increase intellectual control and access of uncatalogued local church history collections. These collections consist of both formal publications and ephemera. They are among our most heavily used and unique holdings. Under the supervision of the Librarian, the Cataloguing Intern will work on cataloguing our large backlog of church history collections which have already been organized and inventoried by church. This work includes collection-level and item-level cataloguing according to professional standards (e.g. RDA and MARC) and those set by the institution. The Library Intern will also participate in Outreach efforts such as asocial media or blog post about their experience. Training will be provided in standards and cataloguing workflows in accordance with the incumbent’s experience. This is a 130-hour internship for academic credit (3 credits) with a flexible weekly schedule to be determined in consultation with the candidate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Catalog church history ephemera collections according to local procedures
o Update existing church history collections with new items
o Create new church history collection records
• Copy catalog church history publications
• Conduct a space analysis of church history section upon completion of cataloguing to update current data
• Participate in outreach
o Create content (e.g. blog, newsletter post, brown bag lunch) about experiences working at the CLA

Education and Experience
• Currently working towards an MLIS
• Enrolled in Simmons LIS 215
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Strong organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective communication skills with a willingness to ask questions and report updates or issues
• Adaptability, flexibility, patience in methodically working through a large project
• Technological competence, particularly with Microsoft products and datasets
Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Experience working in a library setting
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Experience creating standardized metadata
• Familiarity with working with an integrated library system (ILS)
• Familiarity with OCLC WorldShare Record Manager (or another union catalog product)
• Familiarity with description of ephemera
• Familiarity with proper handling of historical material
Working Conditions
• Work must be completed on-site (14 Beacon St., Suite 200, Boston, 02108)
• Work requires frequent exposure to dust and red rot (degraded leather)
• Moderate physical activities, including ascending/descending stairs, moving average-weight boxes (up to 50 pounds), standing and walking
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
