{"id":61,"date":"2025-01-24T16:35:08","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T16:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slis.simmons.edu\/fieldexperiences\/?page_id=61"},"modified":"2025-10-02T15:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T15:07:11","slug":"ptojects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/slis.simmons.edu\/fieldexperiences\/ptojects\/","title":{"rendered":"Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Projects for Advanced Field Experiences<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no one \u201ctype\u201d of project; projects should reflect the needs of the sites, the interests of the student(s), and relate to the SLIS curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Requirements: <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All students should be supervised by a professional while on site\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supervisors cannot be volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All work done by students must be professional in nature\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No menial, sub-, or para-professional work is appropriate (e.g., getting coffee)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compensation is not required but not prohibited. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>All projects are subject to approval by the SLIS Field Experience Manager.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here are some examples of past advanced field experiences:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Local History outreach intern at a public library<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge Management intern at a consulting firm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Museum archive intern at a museum for contemporary culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reference internship at a university art library<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cataloging and outreach internship at a college music library<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Archives intern for a professional sports\u2019 team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Website design intern for a large city public school system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital scholarship intern at a medical school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rare books and special collections intern at a religious history association<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cataloging intern at a regional genealogical society<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical services intern at a university library<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>e-Learning systems intern at an EdTech company<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collections intern at a children\u2019s museum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Deliverables<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are asked to provide some evidence of their field experience when they submit their final reflection at the end of each semester.&nbsp; Deliverables, or final products, vary by site and project.&nbsp; Past submissions have included, but are not limited to: a link to a digital finding aid; an online exhibit; a portfolio of outreach initiatives, etc. If you or your student(s) have a question about the deliverable, please ask them to consult their course instructor for more guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grading<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The field experience is worth 50% of a student\u2019s grade for LIS 512.
