LIS454 Assignments and Projects


There is no midterm nor final exam for this course. The class contains multiple in-class exercises, assignments and team projects. Check course schedule for the due dates.

Late Policy:
Note Note: Without proper excuse, late assignments would get 2 points deducted per day after the due day.

I. Assignments: (50%)

ASSIGNMENTS CONTENT PERCENT
Assignment 1 ProQuest Dialog Basic Search and Factiva Search 10%
Assignment 2 ProQuest Dialog Advanced Search and Nexis.com Search 10%
Assignment 3 Citation and Patent Search 10%
Assignment 4 Literature search on a research topic 20%

 

Assignment 4 will involve using a variety of systems covered in this class searching for scholarly literature on a research topic of your own.

Details of all assignments will be available on individual assignment sheets.

II. Projects (40%)

The following projects are done in teams (same team membership for the two projects).

  • Electronic Resource Librarian Interview Question Development Wiki Project: 10%

    • For this project, you will work in teams (the same teams as your final case study project) to develop interview questions that will be used in your final case study project. You will use the class wiki page as the platform for your team discussion and submission of final questions.

    Details will be available on the project sheet.

  • Electronic Resource Management in Libraries Case Study: 30%

    • During the semester, you will work in teams to conduct a case study of a real library’s approaches and strategies in managing electronic resources by examining the electronic resource offering via the library Website and conducting a phone interview with the electronic resource librarian.

    III. Participation: (10%)

    Class participation includes attendance of class sessions, contributing to the class discussion and presentations, and participating and contributing in the team projects.
