LIS403 ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS


Performance is evaluated on the basis of class attendance, three assignments, one extra-credit assignment, one group presentation/lead discussion, one term project (research proposal), and participation. Check the course schedule for the due dates.

Copying of Student Products:
Unless the student indicates otherwise by E-mail to the instructor, the instructor will be collecting copies of student work for use in the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education accreditation process. Student names will be removed from the student work prior to use.

Late Policy:
note Note: All assignments are to be completed and turned in on time. Late assignments are strongly discouraged and the grade will be reduced by 2% for each business day that the assignment is late. If the assignment has not been received within seventh days of the original due date, you will receive a 0 (zero) for that assignment.

  3. PROJECT AND PARTICIPATION: (55%)

    1. Group Presentation on Library Services Evaluation Project (15%)

      For this project, you will work with a classmate to present to the class a summary of a chapter in Part III Evaluation of Library Services of Matthew’s book. All teams will be presenting during November 13, 2017 class session. Each group will give a presentation about a chapter, describe an evaluation idea, raise questions to the class, and lead discussion for 20 minutes.

      Details will be available on the project sheet.

    2. Term Project: Developing an Evaluation Research Proposal (30%)

      During the semester, you will be working with a fellow classmate to develop a research proposal on a topic that you have chosen and considered to be important to evaluation research in Library and Information Science. You will be called upon in class to make informal reports of your proposal development status prior to the final presentation.

      Doctoral students will be developing their research proposals individually.

    3. Class Participation and Presentation (10%)

      Participation is expected for every class meeting. This is an intensive class on evaluation research methods and students need to attend class session. In the event of an unavoidable absence, students should inform the instructor and make arrangements to review lecture notes and other session materials. Class participation includes attendance, engaging in class discussion during class sessions, involvement in presentations and other class activities.
