One of the many new animals we’ve gotten to know since we got here. Despite the fact that they’re only a few inches across (at most), these colorful crabs put on a good show of waving their arms and snapping their pinchers whenever approached. I photographed this one near the top of a massive hill overlooking the sea — they aren’t just along the shoreline!

Geckos are another new Nica acquaintance. They can periodically be seen on the walls of our rooms. They emit a squeaky “barking” sound when they’re around — and it’s good to hear them, since they eat all sorts of bugs you’d rather not meet in a dark alley.
