After a Wednesday night dinner in Sincheon, Shana, Jen, Candice and I were on our way back to the train station when a sign caught our eye  – “Cat Café.”  How cute, we thought – maybe its cat themed? However, upon closer inspection we realized that this café had more than just coffee or tea. It was a café filled with cats!

Cafe entrance

Welcome to Cat Café!

You can always trust the librarians to find a place where you can hang out with cats! We immediately knew we had to stop in. For only 8000 won you get a drink of your choice and the chance to pet, feed and play with (and of course take pictures of) approximately 20 cats.

The rules (and requirements!) of the Cat Café.

Inside we found the café was specially designed just for kitties.  There were plenty of little nooks and crannies for the cats to hide and sleep in, and glass walkways so you could see their cute little paws as they pranced overhead.

What are you doing down there?

Everything you need to interact with the cats was provided, from toys to brushes to (giant) lint rollers for cleaning up all that pesky cat hair!  You could even buy snacks to feed the cats.  The café had plenty of different types of visitors; some people seemed to be there to study, some were on dates and some were there intent on just playing with the cats!

Cat towers and toys

One side of the café was filled with vertical towers and toys for you to use.

Shelves and cat houses

The other side of the café had cute little cat houses and even a small library of books!

Do you have a favorite type of cat? Maybe you prefer the tailless Manx, the super cute Scottish Fold, or perhaps even the hairless Sphynx?  Don’t worry, the Cat Café has them all!! Fluffy cats, sleek shorthair cats, spotted and striped, no two cats looked alike!! We had a good time trying to count them all until we noticed the wall of “cat profiles.”  We wished we knew more Korean so that we could get to know each cat!  We did learn the Korean word for cat, though – go-yahng-e (고양이).  Oh, and in Korean cats say yaong (야옹) instead of meow!

Cat "profiles"

Cat “profiles” help you to get to know each kitty.

We had a great time at the cat café and couldn’t believe our luck on stumbling in on such a fun and unique place.  When are these going to start popping up in America?  It definitely helped to ease some homesick feelings we had for our kitty friends back home.  I think we all plan on coming back to this café at some point to study – although I’m not sure how much work we would get done!

Super cute persian cat

One of our favorites – what a regal little guy!

Its hard to tear yourself away from such cuteness, but we have lots more things to do and places to see here!  We’ll be back with more soon!
