Lane<\/a>\u00a0as the 2018 Allen Smith Scholar! As a part of his visit, he will be moderating two panel events, one of which is the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Free Speech, Civil Discourse, and Libraries<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Tuesday, March 13, 2018;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>6 \u2013 8 PM<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>School of Management Building, Rooms 501\/502, Fifth Floor<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">This event will look at\u00a0issues of civil discourse and libraries, especially focusing on challenges to online discourse including cyber-bullying and trolling along with the related issues of misygony, racism, etc. The event will consist of a panel, followed by a response and presentation by our visiting scholar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The panelists include Simmons faculty members\u00a0<strong>Colin Rhinesmith<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Saher Selod<\/strong>, as well as SLIS alums\u00a0<strong>Gianna Gifford<\/strong>, now Chief of Adult Services at the Boston Public Library, and\u00a0<strong>Kate van Sleet,<\/strong>\u00a0Rights Manager at WGBH, as well as\u00a0<strong>Anita Cellucci<\/strong>, a school librarian in Westborough.<\/p>\n<p>Email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:slis_events@simmons.edu\">slis_events@simmons.edu<\/a>\u00a0if you have any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Light refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n<p>This event will\u00a0 be recorded and made available online.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1btZxkKjtFwFXm_nQ1PezPwHGdgZBFSGv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flyer<\/a> for more information about the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Simmons College School of Library and Information Science is happy to welcome\u00a0Frederick S.
