The 81st Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology<\/strong>
\nNovember 9<\/span><\/span>–14, 2018<\/span><\/span>, Vancouver, Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n

BUILDING AN ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE INFORMATION FUTURE WITH EMERGING<\/strong>
\nTECHNOLOGIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

This meeting will focus the creative and analytical energies of the ASIS&T
\ncommunity on the dramatic near horizon socio-technical shifts expected due to
\nrapid developments in technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data
\nanalytics, virtual and augmented reality, and embedded, ubiquitous computing.
\nThe opportunities afforded by these technologies are enormous, as are the
\nchallenges of ensuring that ethical and human-centered perspectives, including
\nsustainability, privacy, human agency and equity, are incorporated into their
\ndesign and use.\u00a0 As interdisciplinary information science and technology
\nresearchers and practitioners, with an 80 year tradition of studying and
\nworking in this rapidly evolving field, we are uniquely situated to steward
\nand mediate this shift.\u00a0 ASIS&T 2018 will provide an opportunity to learn from
\none another and from leading experts in these emerging technologies; to
\ndiscuss, critique and pose the much-needed questions; and to share
\nperspectives grounded in our own research and practice that intersect with and
\nprovide context for current developments.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The ASIS&T Annual Meeting is a premier, peer-reviewed international conference
\nthat gathers scholars and practitioners from around the globe to share
\nresearch, innovations, and insights regarding the role of information and
\ntechnology in the lives of individuals, organizations and communities.<\/p>\n

We invite papers, posters and visual presentations, panel and workshop
\nsubmissions that focus on the conference theme, as well as work that reflects
\nthe broader mandate of ASIS&T, regarding the creation, representation,
\nstorage, access, dissemination and use of information, media and records, and
\nthe systems, tools, and technologies associated with these processes.\u00a0 The
\nconference embraces plurality in methods and theories, and encompasses
\nresearch, development and practice from a broad spectrum of domains, as
\nencapsulated in ASIS&T\u2019s many special interest groups (SIGs).<\/p>\n

We are pleased to announce that the ASIS&T 2018 Proceedings will be published
\nby John Wiley & Sons and will be indexed and accessible via multiple
\ninternational venues. Please note that at least one of the authors must
\nregister for the conference in order for a paper to be accepted and published
\nin the proceedings.
