The ALA Student Chapter at Simmons SLIS exists to help you:
with the nation’s largest professional organization for library & information science.
with fellow students, professionals in the field, and ideas that matter.
skills you can use at SLIS, in your job search, and throughout your career.
In 1991, the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science Student Chapter joined many of its kind to be chartered by the American Library Association. The ALASC works closely with the American Library Association and its local and regional affiliates to form an alliance between the largest librarian organization in the U.S. and the next generation of information professionals. We serve as a resource for students interested in attending ALA meetings and conferences, promote opportunities for networking and professional development, and provide a local forum for the exchange of ideas and information about trends, issues, and opportunities in the ALA and in the profession. The ALASC by-laws were fully revised and updated in the fall of 2011.
So, in short, what is Simmons ALASC’s role? To prepare students for library life beyond Simmons.
