Bettie attended Simmons from 1933 to 1937. Simmons publications and personal correspondence refer to her by many names including: Jean Elizabeth Goodrich, Elizabeth Goodrich, Bettie Goodrich, and Betty Goodrich. Most commonly, she was known at Simmons as Bettie.
Bettie participated in a variety of activities while in college. She was a member of the field hockey team during her first three years at Simmons. She was also a member of the Glee Club, Academy (the 1930s version of the Simmons Honor Society), and the Dance Committee.

Bettie earned staff spots on both the Per-Simmons (Simmons' literary magazine) and the Microcosm (the Simmons yearbook) during her junior and senior years. She served as an assistant and circulation manager for the Microcosm in her two year term. Her role on the Per-Simmons staff varied from technical adviser to contributor.
Bettie was very busy her senior year with activities as well as rigorous academic work. She was active in literary pursuits (the Per-Simmons and Microcosm), a member of the Academy and the Microcosm Dance Committee, and she graduated with a B.S. in English.
