These self-help pages will guide you through the TOR.

Tech Lab Tip

Have you registered for LIS 400 in AARC? You will be able to access the TOR activities in Moodle about 2 business days after registering.

What is the the TOR?

The TOR is a self-paced online tutorial, designed to acquaint you with technology at Simmons and library tools. It is endorsed and required by Simmons SLIS Faculty as a way to ensure that all students begin the program with the same basic skills. All new SLIS students are required to complete the TOR.

How do I access the TOR?

Register for LIS 400 in AARC. LIS 400 is the Technology Orientation Requirement 0-credit course. You will be able to access the TOR's Moodle site 1-2 business days after enrolling in LIS 400.

How do I get help with the TOR?

Please note that for all TOR-related inquiries, the SLIS Tech Lab will give you the fastest answers. The SLIS Tech Lab provides tech support for the SLIS community. The central Simmons Technology Service Desk is a different department that assists the wider Simmons community and may not have much information about the TOR. They can, however, help you with account information and login problems.

Account Login Problems

In most cases, if you are having difficulty logging in to Moodle, AARC, the Library catalog, or your Simmons webspace, you will need to contact the central Simmons Service Desk directly at 617-521-2222.

Tips for Using This Site

On the left sidebar, you should see an expandable menu. IE users: this menu requires javascript, so if you don't see the menu, you might need to run an ActiveX control. Use the menu to navigate through the readings for Parts 1, 2, and 3. Click on the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols to open and close folders. Click the title to go to each page.

All main pages include a link to a "Printable View". The printable view is a specially formatted page that is designed to be a simpler and more printer-friendly version for you to print. If you wish to print a page exactly as it appears on the site, simply use your browser's print option.

Several pages include small, "thumbnail" versions of images. Clicking these images will open a larger picture in a pop-up window.
